What cutting comb can do

The cutting comb is usually a three-teeth comb. It is very handy for braiding and taking down braids. In Nigeria, where Bukola comes from, cutting comb is a popular tool among hair braiders either at the premium hair dressing salon or by the road side stalls. It is easy to grip because of its small size. It can be handled by kids and adults. Cutting comb helps for clean and straight part when creating your braids. It also helps to make taking your old braids down without becoming a herculean task.Cutting comb was created in wooden form for many years. You have to keep sharpening the edges of the two at the sides for a good performance. Plastic cutting comb is the new invention in the history of this creative tool. If you have used tail comb or duck-bill clips to part hair, you should try getting a cutting comb and see the stress free experience you will have while braiding your client, friend or family’s hair.

You can see illustrations of how Bukola uses cutting comb in her book, Simple Steps to Hair Braiding. You can enjoy parting hair for braids or taking braids down with the use of cutting comb. In the Yoruba culture, cutting comb is called ilarun or ilaari.

The Right Time for a Restyle

December 4, 2012 by admin

Image from Rush Hair web page

Many people talk about restyling their hair for months, or even years, before they actually head to a salon and make a change to their current look. Having a whole restyle should be an exciting prospect, but many people feel wary about trying out a new look. With this in mind, here are a few suggestions to help you decide when it the right time to go for a restyle.

If you know that you’re in need of a change, then it is worth considering exactly what you want that change to be before you arrive at the salon. Keep your eyes peeled for a style that you might like to try. You never know where you might spot a hair cut or style that you love: you might see an image in the window of a salon such RushHair London during your summer vacation, or you might find the perfect style while flicking through a hair magazine during the commute to work. Take note of what you loved about certain styles and discuss this with your stylist to find out how you might be able to achieve something similar.

Try not to opt for a restyle just days after a trip to the salon. New styles can take some time to get used to and change can come as a shock, but constant restyling can prove costly, not to mention damaging to the hair itself. If you are not happy with your style before you leave your salon, it is worth mentioning this to your stylist at the time to find out what changes might be made.

You may also find that opting for a complete change of style may be necessary to allow your hair to ‘recover’ for previous styles. You stylist should also be able to advise you when you will need to change your current style and what the best style options may be in order to keep your hair in good condition.

It’s New! It’s Fun! Its Hair Chalk

November 20, 2012 by admin

Hair Chalk on weave

Happy Thanksgiving America! It’s another national holiday to think and be thankful. It is also a time to sit at the dinner table with loved ones eating all kinds of turkey recipes.

You can make this Thanksgiving even more fun with your hair. How? You may ask. Have you heard about the HAIR CHALK? Yes. Hair Chalk – like the chalk you use to write on the black board that you see at coffee shops or on the sidewalk, floor at home or school.

The hair chalk comes in various shapes and colors. There are various brands too. There is Senellier brand pastels and Scuncii hair chalk, among others. In fact, some people have used the sidewalk chalk to achieve the same goal. As much as it is trendy, there are various reviews on dos and don’ts of hair chalking. The Beauty Department, an online entertainment site featuring beauty tips advised that you do not wet your hair before chalking if you are blonde or have blonde tips.

Some other reviews encourage chalking dry hair and not wet one, except the chalk is not as visible as you want. “If your hair color is anything darker than blonde and you don’t have blonde tips, you’ll need the water. Doubling the pigment is what will help the colors to show up on darker hair. Mist a little water on the strand with a spray bottle, then chalk it up! It won’t stain darker hair the same way it will on lighter hair.” (Department)

Can you chalk braids or weave? As seen in the picture, you can color your weaves with hair chalk. Hair chalking is not just for blondes or Caucasian; African-American can make their braids or weaves colorful temporarily with the application.

If you are wearing braids, apply it to the tips of the braids. Do the same for your weaves. You can style your hair as you like and you will be having creativity hair style plus great dinner this thanksgiving.

Dandruff, Itching, Hair Growth Solution

November 7, 2012 by admin

Bukola Hair Treatment

Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that is common with a lot of people. Whether you wear braids or not, you can be prone to dandruff. As a hair braider working on various ethnic groups, I see this condition all the time. Some are not so bad and others are serious, I had to refer them to the doctor.

Aside from itching when you have braids on, some extensions, especially the synthetic ones can cause some much itching on the scalp that you scratch off your scalp. Some human hair weaves can cause the same effect. Another issue I see at work is hair breakage and many of my clients tired of relaxers and just want to go natural. It is not as if the natural grows as they expect sometimes, they feel safer with their natural hair.

So I developed a product for myself because I experience these issues too. It is the Bukola hair Treatment. It has some ingredients such as castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, Shea butter, mint oil, fragrance and other protein ingredients that promote healthy hair. I introduced the treatment to my clients and they loved it and wanted more, so I had to make it so that everyone enjoys what I am enjoying treating my hair to a healthy state, as I fight these common issues of the hair.

Your hair will thank you if you try this product.
